Hello singers,
Happy Friday! It’s absolutely gorgeous out there!
Sending a good luck to our EnChor Easters who are singing in the Choral Conducting Workshop this weekend! And a big congratulations to our very own Jane for her part in the Brahms’ Requiem with Collegium Cantorum and Nova Sinfonia last weekend. Yay for taking part in choir projects!!
Speaking of choir projects…
Registration is open for NSCF’s Adult Choir Camp in Berwick, if anyone is interested.
Our Kiwanis class will be on Monday, April 27th at Life Branch Church in Dartmouth. Mark your calendars! It’s so important for us to get performance experience and feedback.
For this week’s practicing please focus on these pieces:
Skye Boat Song (for Kiwanis)
– try to memorize the chorus words and notes. This will help you to look up and we can communicate more easily
– final consonants – notice if they are placed on a rest or if you carry through to the next word
Cantique de Jean Racine (for Kiwanis)
– we spent a good chunk of time on the first section of the piece. Remember – LEGATO singing. Stay on the vowel until the last second when you flick in the consonant.
– French diction is really coming along. Please keep using the youtube video to help.
– We need confidence with beat and rhythm. Keep it steady so that we don’t get sucked into the “swing” style
Baba Yetu
– so much better than the previous week! Keep working!!
– m.23-30 – read carefully. Basses, you have a very different part than before.
Singing in the Rain
– map out your part from m.1-18. How many times do you sing your line? When does it change? We want to be able to look up rather than staring at the score. The audience will love it!
– Do we have anyone who wants to do a little rain walk in the concert? Wear a raincoat and walk on the floor in front of the stage? m.19-50?
Acxiom
– this one needs the most work right now. m.43-92.
– Some people asked about the cell phone choreography that they’ve seen online. We need to know the song REALLY well if we want to add a little bit of that. And it is SO effective!
Enjoy the weekend!
