Rehearsal notes February 24

Hello singers,

Just a few notes today. I’ve been busy sending emails to MLAs about the importance of Arts funding. PLEASE help. If you have lots of time, send them to all of the HRM MLAs. Even all of the province. We are in crisis mode.

Some big thank yous that I missed last evening, even though they were written in my plan!

– Thank you to our exec and board for supporting our workshop on Sunday!

– Thank you to Bill and Elaine for bringing the gear from the church. How did we ever live without a flipchart??

– Thank you to all of the chair movers, sweepers, tidiers, and food-bringers!

The TOP sections to tackle this week:

Cantique

– m.40-79 – legato singing. Sing “on the vowel.” Remember our clothesline visual??

Baba Yetu

– m.39-46 – this needs to be familiar so we don’t have to keep reviewing text, please

– m.47-54 – dynamics

– m. 55-62 – TEXT

– m. 63-70 – phrasing – sing 4 measures with no obvious breathing break

– m. 71-end – let’s clean it up with more confidence!

Hymn of Acxiom

– m. 66-74 – YES! The practice is working. Please keep at it and encourage your neighbours to do so as well.

– m. 75-82 – forte throughout. Full, not forced.

Social Madrigal

– it’s really coming along! In general, we need light singing, in the madrigal style. Listen to some on you tube and hear how they are usually fa la la-ing kind of songs! Light and happy!

PRACTISE! All of the other songs and sections can also use attention. Keep them fresh so when we pull them out in rehearsal, you are READY!!

Have a wonderful week and write some letters!
