Hi Everyone,
We are really starting to cook in rehearsal. Getting there! We need to be practicing at home every day from now until the concert.
Sing in the mirror for vowels and expression and looking up at the conductor.
Practice the sections that need work.
AND do run-throughs to build confidence and stamina.
Connect with choir folks to help each other. Motivate and encourage. Threaten if needed 🙂
Cantique de Jean Racine
– Dynamics and phrasing.
– LISTEN like crazy so our voices are working well together.
Baba Yetu
– Phrasing. Don’t breathe where you’re not supposed to breathe!!! It has a magical effect.
– Memorise the chorus so you can look up and enjoy.
Skye Boat Song
– [ k ] consonant. Important!
– Send out the message behind the text.
Rainbow Connection
– Channel your inner Kermit. Pleasant look. Ask the questions in the text.
– m.82 – lift between “lovers” and “the”
Singin’ in the Rain
– Thank you, Lana!!
– review snaps
– m.40 – TB entry. We almost have it! Keep working!
– m.59 – SA review parts – S2 is tricky!
– Final consonants are much better. Chase, place, face, etc…
Down to the River to Pray
– Stay engaged. Stick with the message.
– Folksy sounding. Draw the listener in.
– m.56 we sang a little more “marked.”
– m. 64 still mezzo piano, a little pleading “come on, don’t cha wanna go down”
– m.72 KEY CHAAAANGE!!! Be ready for it.
Rice Krispies Jingle
– use the rehearsal tracks to nail this down
– tutti on snap, then crackle, then pop. Then… 3 parts.
Skyfall
– we skipped it. Please keep reviewing. We have to be cool like James Bond.
Dear Old Shiz
– also skipped this one. A bit of drama. Pride in your school.
Hymn of Acxiom
– Shaping.
– Clean and clear diction.
– Dynamics. Don’t get loud too soon. Reh A – softly. With a slight emphasis on each beat 1.
– Notes – Reh E-G needs the most note work.
– I didn’t have us practice closing to the [ n ] on the last chord. We will plan to do this!
A Social Madrigal
– Dynamic contrasts. Ex. m.16 vs. m.18.
– TEXT is key. It’s only funny if the audience can understand what we are singing about.
– Madrigal. Light. Fun. A spring frolic! Except about social media.
Danny Boy
– we skipped this in rehearsal. Keep working at the beautiful long lines, clear diction, and expressing the sentiment behind the text.
I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing
– we skipped this in rehearsal. BE READY! It will be a real push to put this one together with the boys. We want to be as prepared as possible!
Thank you all for your hard work. Crunch time is a real challenge, but I promise it is worth the effort. Your families and friends will be so proud of you!!!!! And you will feel amazing when you’ve done a great job!
See you on Monday at Kiwanis!
