September 30 Rehearsal notes

Hello singers,

Really good work with the musical details last evening. Phrasing and breathing, placing final consonants, vowels that don’t “sag,” roadmapping songs… we pay attention to these important things NOW while we are learning the songs so that we don’t have to unlearn and relearn LATER. Practice efficiently!

Rehearsal notes for at-home practice:

Shared folder I’ve added a folder called “Suai’r Gwynt.” Please use the recording and your score to listen to Maria’s mom speaking the text.

It also includes Shchdryk text and notes, and The Hands, Auld Lang Syne, Cum decore, and Brightest and Best.

Reminder that our Website for other resources and an archive of these notes is :https://enchoreastsingers.ca/ and the password where required is: happysong

Hope Lingers On

– take a minute to establish the beat and subdivisions before you practice. It will help you line up everything in the score when you sing.

– p.5 m.24-25 – 1/4-note triplet – ATB listen to line up your syllables “e-” “qua” and “gone”

– p.6 m.30-31 – 1/4 triplet – ATB – line up “to-” and “gone” Please mark your score

– p.6 m.44-45 – TB – same! line up “ho-” and “gone” Mark it!

– Remember, the 1/4 triplets are 3 equal-length notes spread out over the space of 2 regular quarter notes. We will be singing in 2/2 time, which means 1 BIG beat = a 1/4 note triplet. It will work! I promise!

Brightest and Best

– m.44 Verse 2 – we circled ALL of the spots where SA and TB are singing the same note an 8va apart. Listen to match the sound!

– mark your verses and choruses so you have a better idea of the roadmap

Miss Fogarty

– we sang through all of the verses and marked them in our scores

– 6/8 time – 6 x 1/8-note counts OR 2 big beats. It all works. But we have to count and feel the beat!

– be sure that you are familiar with the melody of the verses. It will help you know how you fit into the harmony!

Shchedryk

– the text is very manageable. DON’T PANIC! The pronunciation score (thanks to Jennifer last year!) is a big help.

– The file with Oleksii speaking the text is in the shared folder.

– m.25-28 – S2 and TB are on [ lu ]

– m.29-33 – S2, A and TB are on [ lu ]

– m.34-36 – S1, S2, TB are on [ lu ]. TB is holding a G.

– last measure is ONLY S1 and S2. Everyone else has a rest

Auld Lang Syne

– m.28-35 – we sang through a few times to improve our phrasing and shaping.

– text – “for” = fihr – please find them all and mark

– we will tackle text in later verses next week. Please keep practicing the notes.

Please review your other pieces to keep things fresh. We can’t get to every song, every week, and don’t want to start moving backwards!

Have a wonderful week and I’ll see many of you on Saturday for our choir mini-vacay!
