Rehearsal notes February 10

Hello wonderful choristers,

Good work yesterday. I definitely noticed a difference in the amount of chatting happening in between singing – thank you! It really helps with rehearsal and improvement when we can hear instructions and musical support clearly. Let’s keep that up!

Dean and I have chatted about Kiwanis selections. We will sing “Cantique” and “Skye Boat Song.” Which means our French pronunciation and our 6/8 time rhythms will be absolutely amazing by the end of April!!

I shared an update on our spring concert last evening. The Halifax Boys Honour Choir will be joining us and the MCPA brass ensemble. Yay for us! I have a fear that Pam Burton will retire at some point and we won’t have worked together in a few years. Eek! I’m very grateful that she said yes and that we are able to wiggle our own repertoire to make room for her wonderful boys choir!

Singing in the Rain

– we sang through m.77-end.

– excellent rhythm and beat. Keep using those practice tracks!

– check the rhythm at m. 106 and the divisi notes at m. 113

Down to the River

– be careful for small changes in each verse/chorus – rhythm, pitch, and who sings when

Baba Yetu

– really good text work

– well done with applying our learning to new sections of the piece

– we have now read through everything except for p.10-12

– pronunciation in the shared folder

Skyfall

– excellent rhythm reading for the 2nd half of the song

– m.17-24 – TB check notes so that you are not singing in unison with SA

– m. 25-33 – alto check harmony

Acxiom

– use your good musical skills to place final consonants ex. m.3 the [t] of that lands on beat 2

– m.41 – use the recordings to build confidence so that you don’t shy away from this cluster. It’s supposed to sound crunchy, but we need the “just right” kind of crunchy!! C# E# F# and G#

Faure

– p.13-end

– long phrases, singing more vowel than consonant

Skye Boat Song

– it’s coming! The rhythm is gradually getting better!

– m.25 has both rhythms that we have been working on. Always thinking 1 2 3 4 5 6. The word “like” lands on beat 6.

– m.41 is the same. 1 2 3 4 5 6. “Like” lands on beat 6.

– This happens throughout the song

Rainbow

– m.5-20 – recordings for sop and TB are in the shared folder

– m.49/49-63 – sop 1 listens to alto melody and sings in canon

Happy singing, everyone!

Krista
