Music reminders from Krista & seating chart – April 2023

Hello singers,

If you haven’t already, please take some time to review your scores today, while Tuesday’s progress is still fresh in your mind. Hopefully you remember that we took a different approach to our warm-up, focusing much more on listening and vowel sound/shape than actual vocal production. It worked! Tuning and balance was MUCH better than the previous week. Now we have to keep moving forward, paying more attention to the placement of the sound in our mouth/face, avoiding spreading our vowels, and… practice, practice, practice!

Find ways to include vocal warm-ups and exercises in your day – humming, lip trills, and “v”/”z” sounds are amazingly effective for loosening things up and keeping us in good vocal shape. Listen to recordings of the pieces. Practice tricky spots, and do some run-throughs of pieces so you get a good sense of the roadmap.

Remember the words of a very wise Bass…[thanks Ed.] it’s hard to do more than 2 things at once. Yup. It sure is! Rhythm… text… pitch… we have to do all 3, AND then add the musical details. Woah. A big part of this is familiarity. Get comfortable with the scores and music. Mistakes will happen. Don’t dwell on those. The more familiar we are, the more fun we have with the performance and success!

Enjoy the sunny day!

Krista

See below for our seating chart. Don’t panic. I feel as though I’m missing someone from the list… we’ve had a lot of ups and downs this term, with new singers, and people who have had to pause their membership… please let me know if I’ve missed you or if a change needs to be made. The chart is more for order and lines, rather than exact placement in the group. We have lots of room to spread out and find windows between heads to improve sight lines!
