Practice Resources

Your first resource for help practicing at home is Krista’s Google Drive. Below on this page is  specific help for this term’s repertoire.

Note: One of our choristers who uses their phone to practice has discovered that the videos imbedded here will play much better if your phone is turned sideways into landscape mode.

In addition to Kiwanis and our concert, we are invited to sing May 8th at a 7:30PM memorial performance for Elisabeth Manteuffel, a previous director of the choir. This is entirely optional, there is no pressure on you to attend. We will sing The Rising, from our 2025 Winter concert. I’ve put resources for The Rising on a separate page, here:
The Rising.

Cantique de Jean Racine

We won’t have an orchestra as in this video, but it helps you get the feel of the piece. It’s crazy famous in choir circles from all over the world. A good one to know, and somehow fits in our theme of “Screen Time.” (It’s in the soundtrack for Babe!) Here are rehearsal aid tracks: And a diction lesson for French singing on YouTube You will want to come back repeatedly to her third part, where she goes through the piece line by line. And some inspirational performances:

Baba Yetu

Don’t panic. It will be AWESOME!! Lots of patterns and repetition. I will help you. We won’t be recording at any castles or monuments – haha! – but hopefully this gives you a good listen. From the video game Civilization IV, the text is adapted from The Lord’s Prayer and is sung in Swahili.

First, here is a pronunciation guide. Rewind the video for full speed singing.

Down to the River to Pray

Some rehearsal tracks for note learning, NOT how we will sing it:

Soprano
Alto
Tenor
Bass

Danny Boy

The following button links to a pdf with the revoicing for Danny Boy. It covers m.33-end, which is where it splits into many parts. This “rearrangement” has some divisi, but nothing like the 8 parts of the original.

Here is a recording of the Barlow Bradford arrangement:

Singin' in the Rain

Some rehearsal aid tracks:
SOPRANO
ALTO
TENOR
BASS

Skye Boat Song

Please avoid listening to recordings unless you are absolutely certain that the rhythm is accurate. We are working so hard to get it right that we don’t want to back track!

Skyfall

A version to get familiar with the loose musical structure.

Dear Old Shiz

I’ve typed out the sheet music in standard SATB format. Download a PDF of it here. Please let me know of any errors.

Here is the original Broadway cast, featuring Kristin Chenoweth:

Rice Krispies Jingle

Use the buttons below to listen to the vocal line for Rice Krispies, and the score if you need a copy.

We will sing all 3 parts in unison, one after the other, and then split into our own sections. So four times through in total. Voice 1 is Tenor & Bass, Voice 2 is Soprano, and Voice 3 is Alto.

A Social Madrigal

For this piece, light singing, in the madrigal style. Listen to some madirgals on youtube and hear how they are usually fa la la-ing kind of songs!

Light and happy!

Try not to be ironic, play it straight as a madrigal.

P.S. Friendster is back!
It’s been more than a decade since social media platform Friendster went dark, but a new owner has brought it back from the dead – sort of – with the hope he can give exhausted users of modern platforms a reprieve.
