Rehearsal notes January 20 2026

Hello choir,

Here are a few music notes to keep you on track with your at-home practice this week:

Cantique de Jean Racine

– we focused on m.40-end

– please use practice recordings to review the notes for this section at home

– we’re going for long, legato lines

I have added links to rehearsal aid tracks on the Practice Resources page.

Singing in the Rain

– p.11, m.77-end

– please use the practice recordings to be sure you are singing the rhythm accurately

– m.93-96 – the treble voices are doing an S1 S2 A split

*the Sop and Alto practice recordings omit playing the middle (Sop 2) notes. Do the best you can. We will work on this in rehearsal!

– m.113, final chord – S1 S2 A T1 T2 B, i.e. soprano and tenor split, alto and bass do not

Dear Old Shiz

– Listen to the recording. Watch the movie! Not mandatory, but completely fun and wonderful!

– Lines are recorded and in the shared folder

– SA – your lines will be as written

– TB – your line should have a TREBLE clef with the little number 8 under it. Tenors are used to reading like this, but it might be a new skill for basses.

Skye Boat Song

– turn on a metronome app and count 1 2 3 4 5 6, then  1+2+3+4+5+6+

– please avoid listening to recordings unless you are absolutely certain that the rhythm is accurate. We are working so hard to get it right that we don’t want to back track!

– attention to the “no breath” markings

Rainbow Connection

– m.48-49 – Sop 1 and Sop 2 – listen to altos to get your starting pitch

– m.64-71 – mark your scores. S1 S2 A

– m. 72-end – mark your scores S1 S2 A TB

Danny Boy

– m.7-14 – TB

– m. 15-18 – ADD alto to the TB

– pickup to m.19 – A T B1 B2 split

– m.24-29 – SA

– pick-up to m. 30-31 – S1 S2 A split

– after that, I’m still thinking about what we will do 🙂

Have a wonderful week of singing, everyone. Remember to include vocal warm-ups and exercises in your days – every little bit helps as we work towards becoming strong readers and better listeners!
